Commodore's Corner
It has been six months now and the club has made great headway with our beautification projects. I would like to thank Vice Commodore Sean Griffith, Port Captain Ted Sailor and all the many volunteers that came to help. You all have done an fantastic job. If you haven't been down to the club lately, please stop by, I think you will be very please at the new look.
I would also like to thank our PICYA Delegates, Andy and Deanna Desin, the Skippers, Crews, and all the volunteers for all the hard work they put into Opening Day on the Bay. It was an amazing day. So amazing in fact we brought home the Claude H. Benham, Memorial Trophy. What an honor that is.
I am very proud of the support the members of MHPYC have given during the first half of this year and I'm looking forward to the next six months.
Sincerely,
Sue Peeters, Commodore
Vice words - Drink up! (responsibly of course)
Hello All Members
It's hard to believe we are nearly 6 months into the year and what a great first half we have had at the MHPYC. The second half of the year promises to be just as exciting and rewarding.
I want to take this opportunity to recognize our bartenders who are doing an outstanding job. I want to again thank the member volunteers who have helped thus far with the Club beautification. I could not have accomplished as much in such a short period without the tremendous level of volunteer support. I want to thank Butch Kujawa for donating a beautiful print to the Club. It is presently hanging on the wall to the left of the stage.
Our 5th Tips to Donation night at the June 14th General Meeting was again hightly successful thanks to your generosity. Nearly $400.00 was collected with more money trickling in. The monies will go to Kathy Villasenor's Kid to Camp program. Nancy Del Sarto, Asst. VC Dan Van Meter and Mark Van Slambrook volunteered to bartend in support of Kathy's donation.
I hope you enjoy a fun & safe summer and I look forward to seeing you at the Club. Please don't hesitate to call on me at any time if I can be of any help to you.
See you at the Club

PICYA REPORT:
Well, what can I say? Attending the Delegates Meeting on Monday June 7th at Bridge Marina YC in Antioch was definitely a most memorable evening. Receiving the Opening Day on the Bay Claude H. Benham Memorial Trophy was a complete surprise. At what a wonderful one it was.
It's been a long time since the MHPYC was recognized and we now back on the map, once again. We are the 30th club out of 103 to win this award.
Andy and I could not have done it without those Skippers who gave of their time to participate.
A heartfelt thank you: Sal Balistreri, George Carrington, Jonathan French, Manny Gil, Darrell Leamon, Bill McLaughlin, Henry Navarro, Maurice Sanchez, Steve Wurm and Kevin Wiley, THIS TROPHY IS FOR YOU!
I have a wonderful feeling that next year's ODB will be even more well attended and look forward to working with you all again.
Many thanks to all the Flag Officers and Directors and Members who came out on the bay to celebrate and to support this years event.
At the July General Meeting the trophy will be presented and it is my hope that all the skippers can attend this meeting and receive the trophy.
The next Delegate Meeting will be at Discovery Bay YC on Monday June 14th.
Respectfully submitted;
DEANNA AND ANDY DESIN

EIGHT BELLS
It is with a heavy heart that I have to report the passing of Lifetime Member of MHPYC and extremely dearly loved long time friend Ken Ingles, who passed away quietly in his San Francisco home on Sunday May 11th, 2008 at age 92.
Ken's participation with the start of the The Mariposa Boat Club was why his metal membership card was #7.
He participated back when the club had the boat races at Lake Merced and back and forth from here to Oakland.
He was definitely an old salt, with always plenty of stories to tell of his sailing days.
I met Ken in 1967 and he became a father to me. I hope to be able to bring his card back to the club and display it for our archives.
Good bye Dad! I love you!
Deanna
CALLING ALL COOKBOOKS
The Southern Food and Beverage Museum in New Orleans lost the majority of their cookbook collection during Hurricane Katrina.
They want to rebuild their collection.
We will have a box at the club for those of you who you like to donate your cookbooks who may not use anymore.
We will begin a collection in July & August and then send them off. Please be generous!

Nautical Terminology
Between the Devil and the Deep
In wooden ships, the "devil "was the longest seam of the ship. It ran from bow to stern.
When at sea and the devil had to be caulked, the sailor sat in a Bo' sun's chair to do so.
He was suspended between the "devil" and the sea - the "deep" - a very precarious position, especially when the ship was underway.
NEW NEWS:
MHPYC now has WI-FI. Thanks to Bruno, you now can stay connected at the club, while you enjoy camaraderie!
